Podcast Overview

Welcome back to another episode of the Disruption Blueprint podcast with this week’s guest, Mark Dutram, CPWA®, CFP®, AEP®, Wealth Advisor and President of BayView Private Wealth. Mark has over 25 years of experience helping meet the financial, retirement and investment planning needs of families, business owners, and professionals. BayView is a boutique financial planning office that has the distinct ability to leverage innovative trading platforms, money managers, custom-designed investments, and research with a client-focused approach.

BayView Private Wealth joined RFG Advisory in 2020, allowing Mark a year and a half’s worth of time to discern the positive differences it has made to the business. “You have an incredible ensemble of people,” Mark says.

“It helped us from a technology standpoint, from a customization standpoint, from scaling down to deeper relationships with a handful of people,” says Mark. There’s a shift toward more accountability, more transparency, and more value-add from an advisor. “So yes, we’re much happier today.”

Mark’s diverse background in finance has given him a broad view of the financial service industry. BayView Private Wealth is deeply focused on delivering a differentiated client experience and they have the ability to retain relationships as a result of those personal connections. From client education at the local college in Destin, Florida to serving veterans and active duty military to helping women to live financially fearless as a StrongHer Money Advisor Ambassador, Mark has a warrior spirit with a servant heart.

Mark understands the concerns and questions that military and military families can have regarding money. He brings expertise and knowledge from his own experience in the Special Ops and from working with numerous branches of the military, their families, and veterans. “We have a passion for that space, for helping them with whatever it is, whether it’s asset management or retirement planning or even just fulfillment in that new stage for them,” Mark says.

“For our young people, we need to educate them more on financial matters early,” says Mark. He’s dedicated to helping women and the next generation make those decisions with stride. In this episode, Mark and Shannon Spotswood, President at RFG, talk about Mark’s mother and why he has a deep conviction to help educate women on financial matters. Since Mark explains it best, listen to the episode to hear the story in his words!

Mark shares valuable insight on how he weaves his faith and professional life together. “If I didn’t bring Him into my work, I would really be really shorting my clients, because He’s given me gifts and abilities,” Mark sares. “The closer I am to Him, the better that I am using those gifts and abilities.”

A wealth of tips

Make sure to listen to this awesome episode with Mark Dutram, CPWA®, CFP®, AEP®, Wealth Advisor and President of BayView Private Wealth as he provides his thoughts on marketing and social media, serving military clients, and empowering the next generation.  We are grateful for his tremendous amount of insight and energy. Take note of the following three insights from Mark.

  1. Focus on the client experience. “Building relationships is what business is all about,” Mark says. Build on your reputation. Instead of trying to do many things at once or be everything to everyone, focus is on doing a few things better than anyone else. Every client is different and success is unique to each person.
  2. Find your marketing groove. Your clients are looking for you on social media. They want to see your social media presence but in addition to that, clients want to see you in the community. “They want to see you outside of money management and asset management stuff,” says Mark. Share your achievements, experiences and work with others. It shows people you’re a real human being.
  3. Embrace technology. “FinTech is exciting,” says Mark. From BayView’s 75 inch interactive screen to facilitating an immersive experience for the client, it’s important to embrace tech and figure out how to integrate it into daily business.
