Podcast Overview

We love hearing from women in finance and this Disruption Blueprint episode with guest Chris Wedell, CFP®, CDFA®, and Wealth Advisor at RFG Advisory will leave you so pumped up you’ll feel ready to crush anything.

“At the end of the day, I just love helping people,” says Chris. She is a co-conspirator and creator of StrongHer Money, along with RFG President and host of Disruption Blueprint, Shannon Spotswood, where they help women live financially fearless. Chris is a mother, she is an advisor, and she is immensely talented. Chris starts the episode by taking us back a few chapters to discover more about her story.

After 30 years of marriage, her parents ended up getting a divorce due mostly to fighting over financial issues. That’s what ignited her flame and set her soul ablaze. That’s when the lightbulb went off.

“I came to a point after college where I decided for myself, I need to learn as much as I can about this,” Chris says. “How to save? How does that work? How to balance a checkbook?”

She dipped her toe into the world of finance and then dove right in as if she were born to do it. It started by digging into the basics of banking, which led to investing. “I just couldn’t get enough,” says Chris.

She thrived off learning and absorbing any and all knowledge about finance. She started door to door sales jobs right out of college then nailed a sales job in a corporate bank. From there, she started getting a lot of great insight about money lending and investing.

Chris was very intentional about planning her career. She knocked out one milestone and goal after another, eventually partnering with RFG Advisory as an independent advisor. “The beauty of independence is being able to set your own schedule,” says Chris. “The beauty of RFG is that the technology is there to just make it that much more efficient.”

Shannon and Chris share a story about overcoming fear that you won’t want to miss. Stepping out of that zone of fear enables you to live fearlessly, which was the inspiration behind StrongHer Money. StrongHer Money helps women plan their financial future by building the bridges and relationships necessary to help every woman.

“It doesn’t matter what your background is, and how much you have, how little you have. Women not only need the information, they want the information,” Chris says. She understands the questions and struggles that women face as they epically manage life, work, family. Chris has active boys and is navigating a recent divorce. As Shannon says in this episode, Chris is “a walking example of living life in transition.”

A wealth of Tips

Listen to this fearless episode with Chris Wedell, CFP®, CDFA®, and Wealth Advisor at RFG Advisory to discover why she stepped into the finance world, what led her to make a decision to join RFG, and how has StrongHer Money impacted Chris as an advisor. Below are three pieces of wisdom that Chris gave us about serving female clients and the power of delegation as an advisor. Download this episode now and listen on your commute or at the gym.

  1. Have empathy. Chris tells us in this episode that empathy made a huge impact on her mindset, allowing her to move forward to working with other women that experienced a similar gap in knowledge to what her family went through. There is power in having empathy, making real connections, and having a heart.
  2. Be open to discussing different dialogues. Whether it’s the unexpected diagnosis of a loved one or a divorce or any major life-changing event, advisors should be able to have those conversations with clients. How can somebody open up to you about their deepest fears and life if you can’t have that conversation?” Chris says.
  3. Delegate, delegate, delegate. Independent advisors join RFG so they don’t have to do everything alone, so they can be the CEO of their business, not the COO. You don’t have to file paperwork and get bogged down by the weight of endless minutiae. It’s not the best use of your time.
